SUFFERN MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER AND DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED FOR FATAL CRASH
NEW CITY, N.Y. – District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced that on January 7, 2026, Angel Mendoza-Raymundo, 30, of Suffern, New York, pled guilty to Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree and Driving While Intoxicated, before the Honorable Kevin F. Russo.
On August 16, 2025, at approximately 4:45 p.m., a White Toyota Corolla driven by Mendoza-Raymundo struck a 73-year-old pedestrian on Lafayette Avenue in the Village of Suffern. The victim, who was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, later succumbed to her injuries.
Mendoza-Raymundo was intoxicated at the time of the offense and apprehended approximately a half mile away from the incident in the area of Clinton Place. Ultimately, his actions caused the death of the 73-year-old victim.
Mendoza-Raymundo is scheduled to be sentenced to an indeterminate term of 2 1/3 - 7 years in state prison on April 8, 2026.
The case was investigated by the Village of Suffern Police Department with assistance from the Town of Ramapo Police Department.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Meghan Garvey.
“The defendant’s reckless decision to drive under the influence took an innocent life,” said District Attorney Walsh. “Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family, and we hope this brings them a measure of accountability and closure.”
