ORANGE COUNTY MAN SENTENCED FOR COURSE OF SEXUAL CONDUCT AGAINST A CHILD IN THE FIRST DEGREE
NEW CITY, N.Y. – Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announces that on July 27, 2026, James Valentine, 58, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York, was sentenced before the Honorable Kevin F. Russo in Rockland County Court.
Defendant previously pled guilty to one count of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, Penal Law Section 130.75.(1)(b), a Class B Violent Felony and one count of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the Second Degree, Penal Law Section 130.80(1)(b), a Class D Violent Felony.
On or about and between February 5, 2008 and February 5, 2016, defendant sexually abused two male children starting from when they were 8 and 12 years old, respectively, at his former residence in Valley Cottage, New York. Defendant engaged in multiple acts of sexual conduct with both victims including acts of oral sexual contact with one of the victims.
This investigation was conducted by the New York State Police with assistance from the District Attorney’s Office Special Victims Unit.

On the plea to Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, defendant was sentenced to 10 years state prison and 5 years Post-Release Supervision. On the plea to Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the Second Degree, defendant was sentenced to 5 years state prison and 5 years Post-Release Supervision. Both sentences were ordered to run concurrently, with full stay away orders of protection for each victim. Defendant will be required to register as a sex offender after his release from prison.
