MONTICELLO MAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS TO LIFE FOR THE ABUSE OF A CHILD FROM AGES 7-14
NEW CITY, N.Y. – Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announces that on August 26, 2026, Joel Deutsch, 35, of Monticello, New York, was sentenced before the Honorable Kevin F. Russo in Rockland County Court to a term of ten years to life in state prison.
On May 21, 2026, defendant pled guilty to Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child, Penal Law Section 130.96, a Class “A-II” Violent Felony Offense, as well as Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child, Penal Law Section 130.75(1)(b), and Rape in the Second Degree, Penal Law Section 130.30(1). On or about and between February of 2017, and June of 2024, the defendant engaged in various sexual acts with the victim, including sexual intercourse. These sexual acts occurred multiple times while the victim was between the ages of seven and fourteen years old in the Village of Wesley Hills.
The Office of the District Attorney recommended that the defendant be sentenced to the maximum term of twenty-five years to life in state prison on the top count of his guilty plea to Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child, Penal Law Section 130.96, a Class “A-II” Violent Felony Offense. The Court sentenced defendant to ten years to life in state prison, with a full stay away order of protection for the victim. He will be required to register as a sex offender prior to his release from prison.
District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II said, “While this sentence ensures that the defendant serves at least the next decade in prison, my office is deeply disappointed that the Court imposed the minimum sentence allowed under the law. While we respect the judicial process, we strongly disagree with the Court’s decision and fought for the absolute maximum sentence because the gravity of these crimes demanded it. The defendant committed persistent and predatory sexual crimes against this child. The victim was ready and willing to confront her abuser and testify against him. Although this plea agreement by the Court no longer necessitated it, she still came forward today and provided a powerful victim impact statement during the sentencing proceeding. She is a testament to the courage and perseverance of victims who deserve justice. Our thoughts and prayers remain with her on her path of recovery.”
This investigation was conducted by the New York State Police. The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Kaitlin DeLuca of the Special Victims Unit.
