DISTRICT ATTORNEY TOM WALSH HOSTS GUN BUYBACK EVENT

The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office in collaboration with the Town of Haverstraw Police Department will host a community gun buyback event on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Village Hall located at 40 New Main Street, in Haverstraw, NY.  Eligible participants will receive up to $500 in pre-paid gift cards for those who surrender firearms.

Participants will offered money in the form of a $500 pre-paid gift card for each operable assault rifle and $250 for each operable handgun turned in.  They will receive $75 pre-paid gift card for any rifle or shotgun surrendered and $25 pre-paid gift card for any non-operable replica, antique, homemade or 3D printed gun.

No identification is required, and all transactions will be anonymous, and no questions asked.

The pre-paid gift cards will be issued after each firearm is received and screened by the officers on site.  Guns should be unloaded and packaged in a paper or plastic bag and left in the trunk of the participants’ vehicle.  The officers will safely remove it from the vehicle. There is no limit to the number of guns an individual can surrender, except anyone bringing homemade or 3D printed guns will be paid a total of $25, regardless of how many they turn in.  Active or retired law enforcement officers and licensed gun dealers are not eligible for this event.

District Attorney Walsh said: “As we begin National Gun Violence Awareness Month, we are proud to partner with the Town of Haverstraw Police Department for this gun buyback event to continue our efforts to reduce gun-involved violence.  These events are so essential and avert firearm related tragedies and prevent guns falling into the wrong hands. Each gun surrendered is a step in the right direction for a safer Rockland County.  I hope that on this Saturday, our citizens avail themselves of this program to remove guns from our community, and help protect our children and neighbors.”
