RAMAPO MAN CONVICTED OF PREDATORY SEXUAL ASSAULT OF A CHILD FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ABUSE OF EIGHT-YEAR-OLD CHILD FOLLOWING EIGHT-DAY JURY TRIAL FACES LIFE IN PRISON

NEW CITY, N.Y. – District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced that Byron Guiterrez-Rosil, 55, of Chestnut Ridge, New York, was found guilty today in Rockland County Court after an eight-day jury trial presided over by the Honorable Kevin F. Russo.

Guitierrez-Rosil was charged by indictment with Predatory Sexual Assault of a Child (two counts), Rape in the First Degree (two counts) Sexual Abuse in the First Degree (two counts) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child (two counts) and was convicted on all counts.

Following the verdict, the defendant was remanded to the Rockland County Jail without bail. Sentencing is scheduled for October 7, 2026.

On September 2, 2025, the eight-year-old child informed her mother that on two days during the proceeding summer, July 19 and 20th, 2025, while present in the home of the defendant he subjected her to vaginal sexual abuse and sexual intercourse.

“I praise the young victim in this case for having the courage to confront and testify against her abuser. My thoughts and prayers remain with her, and the strong survivor that she is, as she continues to recover from the defendant’s heinous crimes.  I commend the efforts of the law enforcement personnel and prosecutors who worked tirelessly on this case to achieve justice for the victim,” said District Attorney Walsh. “My Office remains committed to prosecuting those offenders who prey on children and subject them to such horrific abuse.  My office will always fight for justice on their behalf to protect all children.”

The investigation was conducted by the Ramapo Police Department.

The defendant faces a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years to life and a maximum of twenty-five years to life in prison for his convictions of Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child.

The case is being prosecuted by Supervising Assistant District Attorney Gerard Damiani III and Senior Assistant District Attorney Brittany Richardson.
