YAMIL CARABALLO ARRAIGNED FOR CRIMINAL POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE FOLLOWING SEIZURE OF 1.2 POUNDS OF FENTANYL
NEW CITY, N.Y. – District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced that Yamil Caraballo, 35, of the Village of West Haverstraw, was arraigned today by the Honorable Kevin F. Russo in Rockland County Court on an indictment charging him one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree and one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree in connection with 1.2 pounds of fentanyl seized on March 5, 2026.
The defendant was remanded to Rockland County Jail without bail and faces up to 20 years in state prison.
Investigators from the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Narcotics Task Force and inspectors from the United States Postal Inspection Service arrested Caraballo on March 5, 2026. The defendant is charged with possessing a package containing deadly quantities of fentanyl powder, which he received through United States mail.
“Today’s arraignment is the result of strong collaboration between USPIS, our prosecutors, Homeland Security, and the Suffern, Ramapo and Haverstraw Police Departments of our Rockland County District Attoney’s Office Narcotics Task Force, under the leadership of Chief of Detectives Deirdre Smith and Narcotics Task Force Director Bill Martinez,” said District Attorney Walsh.
The investigation was conducted by the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Narcotics Task Force and inspectors from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Dominic Crispino, Executive Assistant District Attorney Michael Peterson, and Assistant District Attorney Eleanor Reilly.
*It should be noted that an indictment is merely an accusation, and that a defendant should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
