NYACK MAN PLEADS GUILTY IN SPRING VALLEY SHOOTING FROM 2021

NEW CITY, N.Y. – Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced today that Kevin Castillo, 25 of Nyack, New York pled guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree, Penal Law § 125.20(1), and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Penal Law § 265.03(3) in connection with the March 2021 shooting death of Olgalito Nerette in the Village of Spring Valley.  Castillo entered his guilty plea on September 18, 2026, before the Honorable Anne Bianchi in Rockland County Court.  Castillo is scheduled to be sentenced on January 22, 2027, at 9:30 a.m.

As part of his guilty plea, Castillo admitted that on March 26, 2021, in the vicinity of Monsey Boulevard and Fletcher Road in the Village of Spring Valley, he possessed a loaded operable pistol without a permit or license. Castillo further admitted that with the intent to cause serious physical injury to Olgalito Nerette, he fired the pistol at Nerette, ultimately causing his death.

Castillo will be sentenced to 17 years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision on the Manslaughter in the First Degree conviction and a concurrent sentence of 10 years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision on the Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree conviction.

District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II said, “This guilty plea holds the defendant accountable for taking the life of Olgalito Nerette through senseless gun violence. Our office remains committed to holding accountable those who illegally possess and use firearms in our communities and to seeking justice for victims and their families.”

The case was investigated by the Village of Spring Valley Police Department with assistance from the Town of Ramapo Police Department, Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police.

The case is being prosecuted by First Assistant District Attorney Matthew Martinez and Supervising Assistant District Attorney Allyson White of the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office
