SPRING VALLEY MAN SENTENCED FOR SECOND FELONY GUN POSSESSION FOLLOWING FIVE-DAY BENCH TRIAL TO NINE YEARS IN PRISON
NEW CITY, N.Y. – District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced that Keimoni Spinks, 27, of Spring Valley, New York, was sentenced to state prison today in Rockland County Court before the Honorable Kevin F. Russo.
Spinks was convicted on January 20, 2026, of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree following the five-day bench trial before Judge Kevin F. Russo. He was sentenced to 9 years in state prison for the Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree count with 5 years of post-release supervision, and 3 ½ to 7 years on the Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree count, these sentences are to run concurrently to each other.
On July 29, 2024, at approximately 11:45 a.m., a Ramapo police officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for excessively tinted windows. Spinks, who was in the front passenger seat, fled from the vehicle on foot while the driver remained on scene.
A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of a 9mm semi-automatic pistol inside a bag located on the floor of the front passenger side. The firearm was loaded with seven rounds of ammunition, including one in the chamber.
Video surveillance captured the defendant fleeing from the vehicle and a Spring Valley police officer was able to identify Spinks who was on parole for a 2018 felony conviction in Orange County for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. Spinks received a six-year prison term on June 14, 2018, for the Orange County case and was released to parole on May 28, 2024.
Spinks was apprehended at a hotel in Spring Valley and taken into custody. Evidence later confirmed that Spinks’ DNA was present on the bag containing the weapon.
“This defendant, while on parole for a previous felony gun conviction, again made a choice to illegally possess a firearm in Rockland County which will not be tolerated. I thank the law enforcement personnel and prosecutors involved in this case for all their hard work,” said District Attorney Walsh. “My office remains committed to prosecuting illegal gun possession and holding repeat violent offenders accountable to protect the safety of Rockland County residents.”
The investigation was conducted by the Ramapo Police Department and the Spring Valley Police Department with assistance from the Rockland County Sherrif’s Office, New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center.
