SOUTH CAROLINA MAN ARRAIGNED ON AN INDICTMENT FOR CRIMINAL POSSESSION OF A WEAPON

NEW CITY, N.Y. – District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced that Richard Campbell, 40, of South Carolina, was arraigned today in Rockland County Court on an indictment charging him with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, four counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Firearm.

The following is as alleged in documents filed and statements made in court:

On December 23, 2025, at approximately 10:43 p.m., Haverstraw Police Officers pulled over the defendant’s vehicle.

A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a 9mm handgun with a loaded 17-round magazine and another 9mm handgun with three loaded magazines, each having the capacity of 17 rounds. A search of the defendant yielded a live 9mm round.

“The removal of two firearms and multiple large-capacity magazines from Rockland County underscores why these encounters are taken seriously,” said District Attorney Walsh. “We thank the officers involved for their professionalism.”

The investigation was conducted by the Town of Haverstraw Police Department.

The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Michael Thompson and Assistant District Attorney Sean Burke.

*It should be noted that an indictment is merely an accusation, and that a defendant should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
