HOME HEALTH AIDE SENTENCED FOR STEALING NEARLY $19,000 FROM 78-YEAR-OLD AT KNIFEPOINT

NEW CITY, N.Y. – Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced today that Delores Anderson, 60, of the Bronx, New York, was sentenced to five to 15 years on each of the five counts to run concurrent in state prison by the Honorable Kevin F. Russo of the Rockland County Court on Aug. 27, 2025. A Rockland County jury convicted Anderson of five counts of Grand Larceny in the Second Degree following a one-week jury trial in May of 2025.

The defendant was employed as a live-in home healthcare aide for a 78-year-old man residing in a senior assisted living complex in Pearl River, New York, from December 2022 through August 2023.

On May 5, 2023, while in the victim’s home, the defendant stole property by coercing the victim into writing a personal check payable to herself. Armed with a kitchen knife, she threatened the victim, instilling fear that if he did not comply, she would cause him physical harm. At knifepoint the victim wrote and handed over two checks payable to the defendant, in the amount of $4,082 each.

On July 25, 2023, the defendant again threatened the victim in his home with the same kitchen knife, pressing it against his stomach and demanding that he write three additional checks to her. The victim complied, writing two checks in the amount of $3,603 each, and one for $3,602.

“The defendant abused her position of trust to exploit and terrorize a vulnerable elderly man for her own financial gain,” said District Attorney Walsh. “Today’s sentence ensures that she is held accountable for her crimes. My office will continue to pursue justice for those who target the elderly and prey upon our most vulnerable residents.”

In total, the defendant deposited all five checks and withdrew $18,972 from her back account, completing the theft from the 78-year-old victim. As part of the sentence, the defendant was ordered to  pay the victim restitution.

The case was investigated by the Town of Orangetown Police Department, and prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorneys Allyson White and Brittany Richardson.
