Justice Court and Grand Jury Division
Matthew Martinez serves as the Division Chief of the Justice Court and Grand Jury Division. His focus is on supervising and training new ADAs as they begin their careers in public service. He oversees several units, including the Grand Jury, Superior Court Information/ Alternatives to Incarceration Units and the Justice Courts.
Education
Division Chief Martinez received his Bachelor of Arts from Stony Brook University in 2010 and his Juris Doctor from Quinnipiac University School of Law in 2016.
Notable Cases
The prosecution of 13 members of the Bloodhounds gang in the City of Yonkers in 2021.
People v. Evelyn Lopez — convicted after a jury trial of Assault in the First Degree for slashing a business owner in Spring Valley in 2023. Sentenced to 9 years in prison.
People v. Julian Sanchez — Burglary home invasion and Attempted Kidnapping in Stony Point in 2024, sentenced to 10 years in prison.
People v. Alan Abad “aka Alina Abad” — convicted of Murder in the First Degree for killing his two Aunts in the Village of Spring Valley in 2025, sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
Leadership
Matthew Martinez began his career in 2017 at the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office in the Appeals and Special Litigation Division. In 2018 he transferred to the Local Court and Grand Jury Division where he prosecuted misdemeanor offenses and presented numerous cases to the Grand Jury including vehicular crimes, narcotics cases, firearms possession and violent crimes. In 2021 he joined the Superior Court Trials and investigations Division as part of the Violent Criminal Enterprise Bureau and conducted complex investigations in gang activity and narcotics trafficking, along with prosecuting violent crimes from inception to trial. In 2022, he joined the RCDAO as a senior Assistant District attorney where he continued to investigate gang activity and prosecute felony cases. In 2023 he was promoted to Supervising Assistant District Attorney and again to Executive Assistant District Attorney in 2025. In 2026, he was promoted to First Assistant District Attorney and became the Division Chief of the Justice Court and Grand Jury Division. Throughout his career Chief Martinez has been a leader in training and supervising other Assistant District Attorneys. His focus is on violent crimes as he prosecutes homicide cases with a specialty in gang related murders. He works closely with local law enforcement and our federal partners.
